We are celebrating Eugene Hunter Sr., lovingly known as "Moot" to family and longtime friends. He was born on June 19, 1931 to Jimmie Hunter and Gertrude Gordy Hunter in Eufaula, Alabama. He attended and graduated from Rebecca Comer High School and later moved to Fort Myers, FL. There he worked as a masonry helping to build the community.  He later took a job with the Lee County Port Authority where he served for over 15 years before retiring.

 

He married Nancy Lee Keith on June1, 1968. Together they worked and raised 10 children.

Eugene accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. His commitment and faithfulness to Christ concluded as a deacon at St. John 1st Missionary Baptist Church, where he served for over 30 years. He enjoyed watching baseball, gardening, cooking, fishing and sharing the gospel with others.

 

He now joins his parents Jimmie and Gertrude Hunter, siblings; Gussie Mae Hunter, JC Hunter, Jimmie Hunter, Willie James Hunter, Odell Battle, Adell Trotter, and Ida B. Upshaw, son Earl Jackson, brother-in-laws Silver Battle Sr. and LC. Brown, sister-in-law Sallie Hunter, son-in-laws; Lester Taylor and Albert Gaskin.


He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 60 years Nancy Lee Hunter. His children: Betty (Phillip) White of Virginia Beach, VA, Elaine Gaskin of Gainesville FL, Rose Felton of Casselberry, FL, Greta Taylor of Cape Coral, FL, Sharon (Carl) White, Eugene (Renay) Hunter Jr. , David (Sybil) Hunter, Micheal (Kathey) Hunter, and Dorothy (David) Dawson all of Fort Myers, FL. His siblings: Leroy Hunter of Gary, Indiana, Robert (Maxine) Hunter of Jonesboro, GA, Gertrude Brown of Fort Myers, FL, 3 sister-in-laws Lula, Hattie, and Louise Hunter, brother in-law Marshall Upshaw and a host of grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grand children, nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
