Obituary

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

On April 19, 2018, Isaac (Ike) Dennis slept away peacefully in Naples, Florida, and entered into the joy of the Lord.  Isaac was born on May 20, 1915, in Tallahassee, Florida to John and Beulah Dennis. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Burl, Buddy, Ben, Susie, Mary, Martha, and Lily. As a child he attended elementary school in Miccosukee, FL.

Isaac was married for many years to his lovely wife Elizabeth Dennis. They were united in Holy Matrimony on February 6, 1937, in Tallahassee, Florida. They raised eight self-sufficient children together in a household full of love, laughter, virtuous Christian values, and a strong work ethic. Three of his children preceded him in death (Solomon Dennis, Palmer Lee Dennis, and Aniese Dennis Lumpkin).

As a young man, Isaac served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman. In 1952, the Dennis family relocated to Immokalee, FL, where Isaac worked as an expert lumberjack. In his spare time, he could always be found with a fishing rod in hand; he was an avid fishermen and hunter. He brought life to the parable, “teach a man to fish” by teaching generations of men and women the proper technique to catch, clean, and cook fish. His other pastime activities included watching baseball, playing cards and dominating many playing the game of Checkers. In later years, he enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren adventurous stories about his early life. Through these discussions and numerous life lessons, Isaac taught his children necessary life and survival skills. The unconditional love shared between, Isaac, his children, and grandchildren will be cherished forever.

Those left to cherish his memory include the following: one sister, Luvenia Miller (Tallahassee, FL); one son, Isaac L. Dennis Jr. (Sara) (Lehigh Acres, FL); four daughters, Lucy M. Hall, Elizabeth Boswell (both of Immokalee, FL), Claretha Thomas (Robert), and Arlene Desmore (all of Lehigh Acres, FL); 27 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, 76 great great grandchildren, 3 great great great grandchildren, a host of relatives, friends, and fishing buddies.
