Ninety one years of a blessed and loving life ended on May 23, 2016. Johnny Rogers was born November 14, 1924 in Cuthbert, Georgia of Randolph County to Carrie Lue Hill and John Russell Rogers, his biological parents. His adopted parents, Jessie and Lottie Blutcher reared him along with twelve other children. Johnny and his adopted family worked on a farm in Shelby and Cuthbert, Georgia. He left Georgia in 1943 and went to Cocoa, Florida. He worked in a packing house, Patrick Air Force Base and on the railroad. He joined Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Johnny lived in Ohio for several years. He came to Ft. Myers in 1948 and joined Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Reverend Wallace. He has a been a member of Mt. Olive for sixty-eight years, where he said you must trust and have faith in the Lord. He was a former member of the Trustee Board and a member of the Elks Lodge.
In 1960, he became a landscaper and worked in Ft. Myers and Cape Coral for fifty years which he really loved and enjoyed. He had a nursery on Eastland Street which he later moved to Edison Avenue and his home.
In 1965, he met Nina Denson, and thirty years later they were married on January 14, 1922. They had fifty-two years of a loving and happy life together. He has one son, Gerald Rogers. He helped raise his stepson, Lester Denson Jr., and nieces, Antionette Abrams, and Lisa Myhand, nephew, Antonio Abrams.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted wife, Nina Denson-Rogers; son, Gerald Rogers; stepson, Lester Denson Jr. (Pamela); grandson, Lester Denson III; nephew, Antonio Abrams (Zetta); nieces, Antionette Abrams (Demetrius), Lisa Myhand (Miguel); two sisters, Lottie Bell Baker and Bessie Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Winn Jr. (Mary) and Cleveland; cousins, Clarnece Hill (Margaret), Marshall Williams (Jacquie), Mary Hill-Lowe and Mentha Hill and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
