Obituary

Laverne Denise James was born on Aril 13, 1965 in Miami, Florida to the late Sammie Lee James and Janice James. She moved to Fort Myers early during early childhood and accepted Christ in her life at an early age. Laverne or “Pee-Wee” as she was known by her family and close friends attended public schools in the Lee County.  Although, she was a single mother of six she put herself through two nursing programs while working full time. Despite her accomplishments Laverne remained humble, never looked down on others and would help a complete stranger.

Due to her apparent genuine, sincere, loving, caring, compassionate and willing to help others demeanor she made an everlasting impression on whomever she encountered making it effortless for her to develop and maintain lasting friendships. Laverne will always be remembered for her engaging smile, outgoing personality and remarkable intelligence. She was a very devoted mother and dedicated nurse.

Laverne was preceded by brother, James Ross. She leaves to cherish her memories daughter, Tyronia Collins;  five sons,  Xavier Hernandez Jr., Deshawn James, Tony Collins, Joesph Collins, and Tyrone Collins.  Her grandchildren, Tavien Hernandez, Uriah Hernandez, Tony Collins Jr., Jalisa Collins and Yesenia Hernandez; sister, Joyce James;  special friends, Mary Woody-Speed and Debbie Hubbell , a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing  friends.

We cannot Lord thy purpose see. But all is well that's done by thee. Rest in peace until we meet again in that sweet bye and bye.

I have worked with Laverne and truly enjoyed having her as my charge nurse. Go to her with a problem or issue and she always had an answer, no wavering/lamenting. She knew her work and gave good guidance. When my hair was falling out and I took independence to meaning, July 4th, 2012, and shaved my head, it was her who put the perfect finishing touches when I arrived at work. I have been thinking how senseless she came to her death and wonder, what if. I,ll missed her dearly and will keep family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.
Laverne you are and were a good person...hate to use the past tense.God has other things in store for you. You will be a trooper there.

Rest in peace.....Ingrid Coppin.
