Mrs. Dessie Mae Culliver was born on January 8, 1938 in Vienna, Georgia to the late Mr. Willie Van and Mrs. Laura Bell Feagin.  Dessie and her childhood family traveled and lived in several states across the U.S. working in different areas such as farming, sharecropping, aluminum, etc. The Feagin family has always been a close-knit, loving family.

 

Further in life, during her mid 20’s of age, she met the late Joseph Culliver, which she married on June 8, 1966 in LaBelle, Florida. The two of them settled there and had two loving children, the late Joseph Bernard Culliver and Dessie Thomas.

 

Dessie served as a faithful inseparable member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, LaBelle, Florida for over 40 years fulfilling the role of an usher and deaconess. All of which she was very active in all the days of her life there. One great accomplishment of Dessie was receiving her Bachelor Degree from Florida Memorial Community College in Miami, Florida on April 29, 1984. Another great accomplishment was retiring from the Lee County School System from Buckingham Exceptional School after serving over 25 years.

 

Preceding in death was husband, Joseph Culliver and son, Joseph Bernard Culliver. She leaves to cherish her daughter, Dessie (Charlie) Thomas; two granddaughters, Angel and Destiny Cornelius all of LaBelle, Florida; the dog, Spike Culliver; sisters-in-law, Fenis (Johnny) Culliver of Elizabeth City, NC, Judgie Lee (Eulice) Davis of Pensacola, Florida and Susie (Frederick) Davis of LaBelle , Florida; two special nieces, Evelyn (Robert) Baxter and Sadie Fagin of LaBelle, Florida; one God son, Frederick Tyrone (Krystal) Davis of LaBelle, Florida; one God daughter, Kecia (Al, Sr.) of Clewiston, Florida; a caring and loving nephew, Rudolph (Lana) Clayton of Homestead, Florida; two irreplaceable friends, Mr. and Mrs Lawrence Williams and a host of other nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 874 Suwanee Avenue, Labelle, Florida.  Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Cemetery, Clewiston, Florida.  Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11 am., Saturday morning at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
