Dominick (Doc) Caiella

December 22nd, 2015

Dominick Caiella, 91, of  West Monroe passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22nd, surrounded by his family. Dominick was born in Syracuse, NY and worked as a laborer with Laborers Local 214 for over 30 years. Prior to that, Doc worked as a self-employed mason. One of his most notable achievements   was laying the brick at Gang Memorial Chapel. Post-retirement, he helped  lay the block work for the  West Monroe Fire Department and supervised the rest of the process. The Fire Department gave Doc a plaque thanking him for his contributions.

Dominick was a proud World War II Veteran, serving as a First Sergeant in the  4574th Quartermaster Service Company. Doc fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Service Star. He was a Past Commander of the Trach Auringer VFW Post 7325, in Constantia, NY.
Doc was an avid woodsman, hunter, and fisherman. He was a lifetime member of Otto Mills Fish and Game Club. Doc enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July with his family    at camp, muskie fishing on the   St. Lawrence River, playing poker at the Turning Stone Casino, and watching the Yankees.

Doc is survived by his children Peter and Darlene, granddaughters Erica (Jon) and Lisa, great-grandchildren Lucas and Caleb, and generations of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is sibling Rose. Dominick is predeceased by his wife, Arlene.
Special thanks to his neighbors Shirley, Troy, and Kristie, and to the medical staff on the second floor of  St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 28th from 11am to 1pm immediately followed by funeral services, at Gang Memorial Chapel, 104 Fordham Road in Syracuse. Burial with Military Honors will be at Union Settlement Cemetery,  in West Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to SOVAC (Southern Oswego Veterans Ambulance Corps) and/or  West Monroe Fire Department in memory of Doc Caiella.

Darlene and Pete, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Our memories of both your Dad and Mom are only the best. Keep those similar memories you have close, because that is what we have for tomorrow. Uncle Doc and Aunt Arlene were always something special to us. All our best.

Pete and Darlene,
Your dad was such a great guy. He has left a hole in many hearts, I'm sure. I've always remembered the things he taught me. At least he's at peace now
