Olive L. (Lindsay) Holman, a life-long resident of Walpole, MA, died peacefully in her sleep on August 4, 2014, just 4 days before her 96th birthday, following a period of declining health.

She was the wife of the late Oscar F. Holman, and devoted mother of Carl F. Holman and his late wife Christine of Boxboro, MA, Jean and her husband Paul Gibson of Tiverton, RI, Martha and her husband Bob Wheeler of Walpole, MA, Beverly and her husband Karl Andersen of East Sandwich, MA, Cynthia and her husband Rob Cole of Glastonbury CT, Elinor and her husband Kevin Thieme of Plymouth, MA, and Nancy Holman-LaMotte and her husband Barry LaMotte of Brockton, MA.  She was the loving “Grandma” to Rick and Renay Holman, Christopher and Melody Holman, Barbara, Andy, and David Potter, Ruth and Jack Atchison, Deborah Wheeler, Mark and Rosie Wheeler, Bobby Andersen and his fiancée Karen King, Sarah and Bill French, Eric and Amanda Cole, John and Dawn Cole, Jeffrey Thieme and his fiancée Galit Hirsch, Matthew Thieme, and Emma and Anne LaMotte.  She was “Great Grandma” to Brooke, Nick, Jake, Kayla, Sam, Lindsay, Izzy, Angel, Nate, Aly, Brianna, Alana, Ryan, and Katie as well as “Great Great Grandma” to Jacob. She was “Aunt Ollie” to many nieces and nephews.

She was born and raised in Walpole, MA and graduated from Walpole High School.  While considering her children to be her greatest achievement, she spent her professional career working at Kendall Mills in Walpole, MA, landing one of two intern positions in her senior year of high school.  Her role at the company went from the typing pool to secretary to the head of the Stenographic Department in both Walpole and Boston, MA.  She also used her talents to produce THE TORCH, the church newsletter, and the manuscript for the church history for the United Church in Walpole, MA, where she was a life-long member.

She enjoyed handwork like embroidery, cross stitch, and quilting, emailing with friends and family, walking the beaches of New England and beyond, traveling to visit far-flung family and friends, watching the Walpole HS field hockey team, the Boston Bruins and especially the Red Sox. Being born in 1918, she was so proud when the Sox finally won a World Series. She was also a long time member of the Lodema Rebekah Lodge, belonging 60+ years.

Dear Holman family,
Bob and I send our sympathy for your loss, and our admiration for the amazing legacy left by your mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, etc.! She must have been so proud of all of you and have felt at peace knowing she left the world a better place.
I have such fond memories of your mom, my friendship with Cynthia, and the ways you all reached out so I would feel part of the family - baseball games in the backyard, LOTS of card and board games, walking to the brand-new junior high together, the careful parceling out of cookies so I could share in the treat, and the importance of family that was so evident in the home your mom and dad created.
I wish we could be present to celebrate Mrs. Holman's life and share stories on September 21, but please know we will be thinking about all of you.
Sending our love and prayers,
Sally and Bob
