Please accept my sincere sympathy at the sudden passing of your husband, father and grandfather, Jim. I served with him on the State Police. He was a wonderful person and a true gentleman. May he rest in peace in the company of the angels.

Lt. Jim "Mugsy" McGuinness was a legand on the Massachusetts State Police. "Mugsy" was one of the finest Ballisticians in the History of the State Police. Jim was one of the few who could keep his sense of humor during the difficult processing of a crime scene.

Jim was a ballistician before anyone could spell CSI. "Mugsy was the real deal not the "Hollywood" version. His skills and expertise advanced the science and reliability of ballistics. Lieutenant Jim McGuinness has been certified expert in every court in Massachusetts.

Being the expert was not enough for "Mugsy." Jim shared his skills by teaching several generations of new MSP Ballisticians. He taught the new recruits and the veteran detectives. "Mugsy" was a great storyteller with a purpose. Each of his stories contained a lesson in ballistics.

We are going to miss you my friend!!!

The current and retired members of the Massachusetts State Police send their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Lieutenant James "Mugsy" McGuinness''s family and friends.

The Massachusetts State Police has lost one of their "Living Legands." Lieutenant Jim "Mugsy" McGuinness was a legand in the Ballistics Section of the Massachusetts State Police and the law enforcement community throught the United States.

Lt. McGuinness and Lieutenant Chet Hallice (RIP) carried the MSP Ballistics Section into the 20th Century. They were experts in Ballistics before anyone could spell CSI, They were court qualified in every Court in the Commonwealth. The amazing part is that for "Mugsy," it was not a big deal. He was just doing his job...

The current and retired members of the Massachusetts State Police send their Deepest Sympathies and Heartfelt Condolences to the Family and Friends of Lieutenant Jim McGuinness for his untimely and all to soon loss.

We Will Miss You Mugsy.........

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed you tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You''ve left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through your children, you''re always by our side.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home.

I worked with Jim at various times and locations during our careers from 1964 on. Sometimes it was fun and others not! But always we were more than just co-workers. I offer my condolences.
