Nell Ellington Boyd, 84, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013. Her husband, Earl Boyd, her children Andrew Boyd, Christopher Boyd and Andrea Boyd Montagno, her grandchildren Elara, Emily and John Montagno, and Alexander and Graham Boyd, and daughters-in-law Dianne and Jody survive her.
Nell was born in Oxford, North Carolina on March 23rd, 1928. She grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where she married Earl Boyd in the Emory Chapel in 1948, after waiting for him to return from his service in the Navy in WW2. After Earl’s return from the Korean War, Nell and her family moved to Wilmington, Delaware, Chester, Pennsylvania and finally to Walpole, Massachusetts in 1958, where she lived the rest of her life.
Nell, a woman of great faith, joined the United Church in Walpole where she made many wonderful lifelong friends. She was also an active member of the Walpole League of Women Voters.
As her children grew, Nell enjoyed a business career spanning from editing at Plimpton Press, to becoming an executive secretary at Lowden Tree and Polaroid, where she became known as their Den Mother.
Nell’s greatest joys in life came from her spending time with her loving family and giving to those in need. To know her was to love her.
Nell’s family invites all her loved ones to join us in celebrating her life in a memorial service that will be held at the United Church in Walpole on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at 1:00pm. Her wish was that in lieu of flowers, contributions are to be made to the Walpole EMTs and Police, the Walpole VNA, the Needham VNA Hospice or Norwood Hospital.
