Dana (nee Fogarty) Mitchell. 28 years. Dana passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by her family on September 7, 2013. Although Dana could not escape the illness which had afflicted her since January 2012, she exhibited a level of courage and strength rarely found. The entire Canaryville community mourns the loss of this amazing woman and the promise her future held. Dana accomplished much in the short time she was with us. She was a graduate of St. Gabriel School, Mother McAuley High School, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois State University and a Masters Degree from Kent State University. Dana was the beloved wife of Dale Mitchell, Jr. Loving daughter of Joseph and Eileen (nee Goga) Fogarty. Dearest sister of Michael, Kallie, Ryan, Maura and Matthew. Devoted granddaughter of Anita (nee D’Asto) Goga and James (Anita) Goga, and the late Carl (Rose) Fogarty. Daughter -in-law to Irene and the late Dale Mitchell, Sr. Dear sister-in-law of Steve (Holly) Mitchell, Charlotte (Jim) Galey, Robert (Dana) Mitchell, and Melanie (Robert) Bilkey. Fond niece, aunt and cousin to many. Cherished friend to all who knew her. Dana’s tragic and all too early passing is deeply felt throughout the Mitchell, Fogarty, Goga and D’Asto families who wish to express their thanks to all of Dana’s friends and extended family for their support and prayers. Funeral services 8:45 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013, from the Thomas McInerney Sons Funeral Home, 4635 South Wallace Street, Chicago, IL 60609. I am so saddened to have heard of Dana's passing. I wasnt even aware that she was sick. I knew Dana in highschool and clearly she was smart, reserved and always had a warming smile. My heart is heavy to hear this. She really put up a fight and went through quite a struggle. I wish I had/could have reached out to her prior to this. She was much too young, and much too good of a person to be taken so soon. My condolences to Dana's family, I am so very sorry that you lost a beautiful person. I will remember the laughs we shared together and the smile she always had. May she rest in peace.

I miss you Dana and I love you so much! You were such an amazing role model, friend and sister. I will never forget you and the things you taught me. I am so very upset that you left us, but I know you are in a better place now and are resting among the angels. It is okay to rest now especially with the long hard battle you fought. Please watch over us from Heaven and I will continue your journey of helping others. PPLAM.

Dana, I mostly followed your courageous battle with cancer through Facebook -- I was always so impressed with your determination, your optimism, your honesty, your eloquent expressions of gratitude for your husband, your friends and the support from the community. I also remember you as one of the most dynamic personalities in our Kent State cohort -- that seemed to never change. You were always your own person and I admired you for it. Find eternal peace, friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing your angel at 28 is a true tragedy. I was devastated to lose Michael to this type of cancer but he had at the very
least lived a full life. I pray you will remember that death creates a heartache that will never heal but love creates a memory that no one can steal. I will think of you often and rejoice in the knowledge that your angel
is watching over you.

I was saddened to hear of Dana's passing. I didn't know her very well, but being sorority sisters we had a bond. I was always amazed at how willing she was to help others out. She has grown her wings and will watch out for all of us now. You are greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to your families in this trying time. I knew Dana in high school, and have been following her bravery in the face of all that she had been through recently. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing, and hope you can find peace in comfort in the memory of her courageous spirit and positivity. She was a sweetheart, and she will be fondly remembered by myself as well of many other women who walked the halls of McAuley beside her.

Dana was one of the first to welcome me back to my trip from Europe. We worked together at the Baldwin Wallace University study abroad office. Dana took me under her wing and made me feel comfortable there. She was a joy to be around--a great listener, animated, and ambitious for a meaningful future. She was dedicated to learning and self-improvement. I am so happy that she had the opportunity to be with Dale and know that he filled her heart with joy. I was amazed and inspired by her strength and positivity, and followed her online journal. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and I will keep memories of Dana with me throughout my life. Thank you for bringing up such a beautiful person into the world.
