Bette L. Wellman
PORT ALLEGANY- Bette L. Wellman, 82, formerly of Broad St., passed away Saturday (Aug. 28, 2021) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
    Born January 28, 1939, in Gowanda, NY, she was a daughter of Clarence J. and Dorothy Wright Denea.  On Aug. 1, 1958, in Buffalo, NY, she married Jerry L. Wellman, who died Oct. 30, 2006.
      Bette was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of Fredonia High School, class of 1957.  She also attended Bryant & Straton Business Institute, Buffalo, NY.
   She was also a winter resident of Sanibel Island, FL, for many years.
     Bette was a member of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, where she had been a member and director of the church choir.  She enjoyed music and sang at many weddings.  She was an avid crafter and baker.
       Surviving are a son, Michael J. (Joann) Wellman of Frewsburg, NY; a daughter, Susan L. (Ted) Tanner of Turtlepoint; five grandchildren:  Lorianda Smith, Todd (Amanda) Tanner, Kaitlyn (Alex) Froman, Jason (Stefanie) Casel, and Rachel Wellman; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry, a brother, Donald Denea, and a sister, Eleanor Bastedo.
      Friends will be received Tuesday (Aug. 31, 2021) from 4-5 p.m. in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a private funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. with Rev. Matt Howe, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
