My uncle taught me to tell the funniest fish stories, and provided business 101 lessons Duchy style!

Years ago:
Uncle Duchy, Joseph and myself set out to land the big one! With our sears sucker self in cased fishing rods, the all in one type, we set out on our fishing journey.
He drove us about a mile to the bridge by the candy factory just at the end of the Everett City limit, where the height of the bridge was so high to the water almost took the entire spool of line from our sears sucker fishing pools just to hit the water! There we were, fishing waiting for the big one to swim up the muddy river to bite the hard French bread or stinky squid Joseph would not put on his own hook that we were using for bait! This being the same squid that was in the gravy cooking at the house waiting for us to return and eat! Joseph and I were fishing away. We must have looked like a couple of pro's: When all of a sudden a car pulled up to where we were fishing and had asked if we had any luck. We informed the guys that we had caught no fish to that point, it seemed these guy's been right there fishing some years before and knew we had about as much chance at landing the big one as they had years before, then they opened a cooler and we reached in and caught three of the biggest fish ever, right out of there cooler. They had made our day and while driving back to the house where everyone was awaiting for the fishermen to return, Duchy began the tale of catching the fish. We showed up with the fish and everyone in the house went wild. Duchy sat at the kitchen table laughed quietly, he smirked as he always did when he was taken pleasure watching the result of his actions, and sipped his drink quietly, only smiling as everyone looked at the fish and was yelling and running around telling everyone of these huge fish. I kept looking over at him to see how long we were going to keep this up and it seemed like hours before he let the fish story out of the bag! Pictures were taken, all the cousin's had to see those fish. Joseph could not keep a straight face as the questions came one after another about how they were caught!
We caught the big ones and told the big fish story and still have pictures to show for it!
His lesson's in business were ever lasting: when the slush was for us we never squeezed the bottom of the cup while filling it! : He was smart like a fox! I wished I had paid closer attention to my uncle!
I loved my uncle Duchy, I enjoyed his company, I loved the slush he made for all of us, I enjoyed just sitting with him trading stories from time to time as I returned from all the travels the Marine Corps took me on! My uncle was loved by all and will be missed by all that he has touched. Although, saddened that he has left us, I am happy that his journey has brought him into my life and knowing he has no pain now and is in a much better place playing cards, sipping on a cool drink thinking of making us all laugh again someday when he has the chance to hand us a refreshing cup full of flavored slush! Lemon has always been my favorite!

Dear Joe,Daniela, Evan, Ethan and Ava and the Guarino Family:

Please know that my thoughts, prayers and love are with you always. Take comfort in knowing that your Father, Father-in-law, and Grandfather had a life in which he was always surrounded by so much love, laughter and joy. And I strongly believe that the love that surrounds one here is taken with them; so each of you and the all the love you gave to him are all still with him and he with you.

I wish I could be there with you, but know that my love always is.

Love,
Lisa and Tom
