Mary F. Aleo, long-time resident of Everett, MA, died peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2014.
Mary, a.k.a. DIXIE, while serving as a WW II WAC, loved song and dance. Bob Hope called her “Cutie”, as she joined him in entertaining the U.S. Troops. She was known for her style and good looks, voted The Best Looking WAC at Camp Stoneman, and especially loved by the soldiers she nursed back to health. That was the MASH Era.
Later, she became the wife of Peter Aleo and brought to birth six children: Marsha, Peter, Cynthia, Bruce, Philip, and the late Alan. These siblings blessed her with eleven Grandchildren, nineteen Great Grandchildren, and one Great Great Grandson. She was famous for her Italian-style cooking, and opened her heart and home to the needy.
As a Holiday Inn and Sonesta employee, Mary was discovered by movie makers and acted in the Film, “The Friends of Eddie Coyle.” Following her fame, Mary retired and in her 80’s went Parasailing in sunny Aruba. Also, Mary kept busy transporting challenged children to and from School for MALDEN TRAN owned by Lester. Always known as A Giver, Mary volunteered at Rosie’s Place, the Everett Senior Center, Project Triangle, the Attorney General’s Hotline for the Elderly, and was appointed a Member of the Everett Council of Aging, by Mayor Carlo DeMaria, Jr., in 2008 through 2013.
At the age of 91, on Saturday morning, surrounded by her Family, Mary was serenaded with the song that she had taught them as children: “You are my Sunshine.” Shortly after, she closed her eyes and peacefully went to sleep.
She will be missed by Family and Friends and will be forever in our hearts.
Please join us in celebrating Mary’s Life on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rocco’s Funeral Home at 331 Main Street, Everett, MA.
