John Joseph O’Keefe (Johnny), 83, of Middleton, formerly of Everett, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2017 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Johnny was born in Everett, Mass., on September 28, 1933, fourth child of the late Frank and Rose (Rocco) O’Keefe, and was a lifelong resident of Everett, a city he loved with all his heart. He relocated to Middleton in recent years, but his heart and soul remained in Everett.

After graduating from Everett High School in 1951, Johnny enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and this was one of his proudest moments. He was stationed in Morocco where he faithfully defended our country on the shores of Casablanca. He was a decorated airman, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, until his honorable discharge in 1956.
Upon returning to Everett, Johnny met and married the love of his life, Carole Delory. The couple settled in Everett, where they raised their three children, Kellie Ann, Ivy Alysse and John Joseph, Jr., and were active members of the community.  He pursued a career as an electrician for the MBTA and 60+ year member of the IBEW Local 103. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and the Revere Lodge of Elks #1171.

An avid Patriots fan, one of his favorite pastimes was relaxing in his recliner and supporting his favorite team.  But his most precious times were spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren whom he adored. He enjoyed entertaining by the pool in the backyard of his family home in Everett, surrounded by friends and family.   Johnny could light up a room with his infectious smile and sparkling blue eyes. He is remembered by all who knew him as happy-go-lucky, and always ready for a good time.

Johnny is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carole (Delory) O’Keefe; his adoring children Kellie Miller and her husband Walter, of Arthur, IL, Ivy Eidle and her husband Dave of Middleton, MA and John J. O’Keefe, Jr. of Chelsea, MA; cherished grandchildren David, Darcy and Dayna Eidle and Aubrey O’Keefe; loving siblings Joseph O’Keefe and Barbara O’Keefe; caring sister-in-law Mary Keller and brother-in-law Paul Delory and his wife Paula, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Rose O’Keefe, brother Frank O’Keefe and sister Marguerite O’Keefe.

Johnny’s funeral will be held from the Salvatore Rocco and Sons Funeral Home, 331 Main Street, Everett, MA at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 10, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Everett at 11:00 am.  Friends and relatives are invited to attend visiting hours at the Rocco Funeral Home on Monday, January 9 from 4-8pm. Interment will be at a later date. Complimentary valet parking Monday at Main Street entrance.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Johnny’s memory to United Cerebral Palsy or the Disabled American Veterans.
