Floyd ‘Bud’ Leslie Smith, age 74, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born on April 25, 1946 in Pearl, IL to Paul and Florence Glenna Reese Smith.

After high school, Bud joined the United States Army and served in the infantry from 1965-1967 serving our country in Germany, Alaska and other areas of the U.S. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked as a union painter for several years and then became a self-employed carpenter and painter. He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152, National Rifle Association, and a member of various hunting clubs. Bud was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trapping, mushrooming, fishing, coon hunting and coyote hunting. He dearly loved his coon dogs and always enjoyed the sound of the dogs running. It always made his day to have family and friends join him on fishing trips. Family was important to Bud and he loved watching his grandchildren participate in their activities. He truly loved going out to a restaurant with family and friends where he always enjoyed the conversation. Bud was always known for his huge smile and bringing smiles to those around him.

Bud is survived by his children, Lonny (Deanna) Smith of Chicago, IL, Rodney (Jodi Hejny) Smith of Pittsfield, IL, Jeremy (Michelle) Smith of Cape Carteret, NC, Wendy (Dave) Thometz of Pittsfield, IL and Dawn Horkavy of Chicago, IL; stepchildren, Bill (Connie) Burton, Teresa (Mike) Robinson, Cheryl (Scott) Syrcle, Renee (Jeff) Korte; grandchildren, Makayla Smith, Wyatt Smith, Sammy Jo Smith, Dakota Smith, Haley Smith, Jeremy Thometz, Bryson Thometz, Paige Thometz, London Thometz, Whitney Faal, Mya Smith, Maleia Smith, Kennedy Smith, Alana Smith, Kelci Jo Smith, Destiny Horkavy, Joey Horkavy, Faith Horkavy, Heidi Jaeckle, Michael Robinson, Johnny Robinson, Martin Syrcle, Nathan Syrcle, Josiah Syrcle, Adam Korte, Heather Korte, Megan Jacobs, Ashley Lohman, Justin Burton, Brady Burton, Heather McDowell , Kayla Merrill and Zack Merrill; several great grandchildren; and siblings, Gladys (Bob) Clarkson, Doris Webel, Bill (Sandra) Smith, Don Smith, Ronnie (Pam) Smith and Freddie (Joetta) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jody Smith; grandson, Trystan Smith; granddaughter, Kathy Syrcle; brother and sister in law, Gearold and Barb Smith; sisters, Virginia Chaplin-Bevins and Lois Stanley; brother in law, John Webel; and sister in law, Barbara Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene with interment at Hess Cemetery in Pearl, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00–1:30 PM at the church. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Memorials are suggested to be made to Hess Cemetery. So sad to here of Bud's passing. He was my favorite neighbor for many years. So sorry for your family's loss. He and Jody are fishing today. RIP.
