Anita G. Schien, age 85, of Lake Ozark, MO passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO.  She was born on February 20, 1935 in Glidden, IA to Lloyd and Leta Myers Steininger.  She married Harold Frederick ‘Fred’ Schien on July 19, 1953 in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death April 3, 2013.

Anita was raised in Iowa until her freshman year when her family moved to Springfield, IL.  She graduated from Springfield High School and during her high school years, she was very active.  She was a gymnast, a point guard, baton twirler, cheerleader, and a debutante.  After graduating, she took the Mensa IQ test and became a member of the Mensa Club.  She then went on to become a wife and mother raising her children while Fred’s career kept him on the road and away from home.  Anita became the matriarch and role model teaching her children etiquette and manners.  Many life lessons were taught at their dinner table.  She was an avid bridge player, scrabble player, and Texas Hold’em Ace up until her passing.  In 1967 to 1968, she started her volunteer career for the Republican Party in Virginia during the election.  She spent countless hours over the years volunteering for numerous organizations.  She also loved to make stain glass art and was a collector of steel banks and in earlier years, enjoyed antiquing with her husband.  Anita insisted on family time and family gatherings.  Her family was always number one and her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, Karen (Roger) Harris of Barry, IL, Karla Schien of Tampa, FL, Kent Schien of Chesterfield, MO, Kristy Schien of St. Charles, MO, and Kurt (Carol) Schien of Lake Ozark, MO; eight grandchildren, Travis (Tammy) Harris, Matthew (Kendra) Harris, Derek (Melissa) Harris, Pat (Jane) Abbott, Tommy (Stacy) Strubinger, Brooke (John) Ford, Michelle (Tovah Trimming) Murry, and Ashley Jo Murry; thirteen great grandchildren, Spencer and Alex, Madison, Brianna, Lilly, Hudson, Grayson, Leighton, Kamden Luke, Carter, T.C., Alexis, and Kinsley; two brothers, Ron (Sharon) Steininger from Henderson, NV and David (Robin) Steininger of Burgin, KY; two sisters in-law, Joyce ‘Jey’ (Paul) Kramer of Springfield, IL and Jackie (Paul) Carey of Springfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents; one grandson, Alan Frederick Schien on November 1, 2016; nephew, Chad Steininger on August 13, 2020;  sister-in-law, Joann Swart on December 8, 1988 and nephew Martin Swart on August 29, 1988.

We will miss playing poker with Anita. She was such a good player. I think she won more women's tournaments than anyone in our league. Such a special lady in so many ways. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Anita touched every person she ever met! But don’t get caught in a Texas Hold ‘EM with her ... best poker face ever! We loved Anita and Fred - legendary couple. Jane and randy kelly.
