Dr. Melburn E. Landin, 90, of Sugar Grove, Pa, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the John & Orpha Blair hospice house.

Born on April 30, 1930, in Sugar Grove, a son of the late Arthur and Alice (Lundburg) Landin, Mel grew up in the home that his father built. As a young boy, he became a member of Mission Covenant Church.

Mel received a Bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and a Doctorate from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry. He married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” (Berquist) Landin, on August 20, 1955. After teaching Physics at Eisenhower High School for a year, Mel served in the US Air Force as a dentist for a few years.

In 1959, Mel moved with his young family back to his home in Sugar Grove to start his dental practice, was joined by his son, Paul, in 1989, and continued until his retirement in 2001.

Always eager to serve, Mel was Chairman of the Board of Camp Mission Meadows, Covenant Manor, and Mission Covenant Church for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hobby farming, directing the Church choir, singing in a men’s quartet, and traveling.

Mel is survived by his wife of 65 years. They have five children: Mark (Beth)Landin of Corning, NY, Donald (Karen) Landin of MN, Susan (John) DeLancey of Pittsburgh, Paul (Karen) Landin of Sugar Grove, Steven Landin and his partner, Heike Newman of CO. Their grandchildren are Kyle and Lien Landin, Kirk and Alyssa Landin, Joel DeLancey, Hannah (Jay) Ginther and their daughter, Jubilee, Rachel DeLancey, Linnea (Brad) Burr and their children Joshua, Mara Grace, and Hannah, Daniel (Stephanie) Landin and their sons Isaac, Asher, and Ezra, Matthew (April) Landin and their children Annika, Gabriel, and Finnley, Gretchen (Andrew) Hopson, and Jonathan Landin.

In addition to their parents, Mel was preceded in death by three brothers: Everett, Harold, and Donald.

The funeral service will be on Sunday, March 7, at Mission Covenant Church 7205 Matthews Run Road, Sugar Grove, Pa 16350 at 2:00 pm, with visitors received for one hour before the service. Rev. Brian Haight will officiate. The burial will follow in the Mission Covenant Cemetery.

He took care of my teeth, Blessed me with his singing at the Rouse Sunday services and was a quiet but powerful witness to the love of Christ to so many over the years. Thinking of him reminds me of the saying "Don't under estimate the impact of a good life lived consistantly over a long period of time." He leaves the world so much better. Blessings, Marc Briggs

Dear Peggy and Family,
We were so saddened to hear of Mel's departure from the presence of his family and friends. We will miss that smile and warmth that he always expressed when greeting his friends. It was a pleasure for us to have known Mel and spent time with him. We are also pleased to know that he will be with his Lord and Saviour and that he will be reunited with all his loved ones that preceded him. Our thoughts and prayers are with each if you at this time.
John and Suzanne
