Evelyn “Cookie” May Pratz, 94, of Sugar Grove, Pa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 19, 1926 at home in Pittsfield; a daughter to the late John and Rosie (Pillsbury) Wilson. Cookie was a 1945 Warren Area High School graduate. She was a homemaker, raising and caring for her 10 children and also worked at the New Process and Town and Country for a few years. Her and her husband owned and operated Tony’s Pratz’s Pizza for many years. Cookie was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. She was an avid bingo player and loved traveling, especially to Ricky VanShelton and Danny O’Donnell concerts. She had held many family traditions, including her wonderful New Year’s Eve parties and her super Easter egg hunts. She enjoyed being with her family and will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Chase and her husband, Randy, of Warren, Jerry Pratz of Sugar Grove, Ralph Pratz of Jamestown, NY, Tom Pratz and his wife, Anne, of Leesburg, VA, Brenda Huling and her husband, Lars, of Irvine, Debi Pratz of Florida and Mary Johnson and her husband, Dan, of Goldston, NC; a brother, Richard Wilson and his wife, Pat, of Lander; a son-in-law, Larry Sandman of Wyoming; a daughter-in-law, Patty Tyler of Texas; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews and great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Cookie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Anthony Francis Pratz, who died in 2001; a daughter, Judy Sandman; two sons, Dan Pratz and Anthony Pratz, Jr.; 3 brothers, Albert, Robert and James Wilson and 3 sisters, Luella Check, Grace Dewitt and Florence Abplanalp.
Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Recreation Center, 210 Jamestown St., Sugar Grove, Pa 16350, from 10am-noon, at which time a private funeral service will be held there with the Rev. P.J. Cathcart, pastor, officiating. Masks and social distancing will be observed. Burial will follow in Warren County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sugar Grove VFD, 11 Wilson Road, Sugar Grove, Pa 16350 or to the charity of choice.
The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Youngsville, have been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net.

There are no words to communicate the sorrow the loss of such a great Matriarch brings to a family...You are all in my prayers.
I will always remember Aunt Cookie fondly for her great smile and warm and welcoming personality! She was truly a light of love and acceptance!
I have no doubt that the re-union at the Pearly Gates was wondrous and that she was met by all those whom she had touched that had gone before her! Love begets Love, and she gave that freely to those around her.
My sadness is eclipsed by the fact that I am so happy that she now walks with Jesus and her beloved, Tony!

I can't express how much Aunt Cookie meant to my siblings and I, she and Uncle Tony were always welcoming and loving. Sleepovers in Sugargrove when we were kids, the New Years Eve phone calls in the middle of the night, the family reunions that we were lucky enough to get to, were all just extensions of their love for family and inclusion for all. I am truly sorry for the loss of this wonderful woman, but I rejoice in the knowledge that she is now in the warm embrace of the Lord and is reunited with all her loved ones. I'm sure Uncle Tony was waiting with open arms.

Mere words cannot convey the depth of my sorrow at the passing of Aunt Cookie. Her presence, along with Uncle Tony and all of the Sugar Grove cousins, was a constant in the years of my young life. Days spent with a roiling, rambunctious, ever-moving horde of children in that unique part of northwest Pennsylvania remain among my most cherished memories. And, always steady and calm at the heart of it all was Cookie; her presence a ready comfort for the inevitable bumps and scrapes and scuffles.
I know that sympathy is pale consolation to a family grieving its matriarch. But, please be certain that my prayers and the prayers of my family go with you all, each day. The cord that binds our larger family runs through a certain white house in Sugar Grove. A home that was open to all; a place I met unquestioning welcome in even after decades of absence. I will mourn your loss. I will mourn our loss. I will mourn the passing of an age...
