Stephen,

I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I know you loved him very much and he you. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I just wanted to share a touching moment I had with my grandfather the last time I saw him:

I told him that I loved him, and he replied, that he has loved me since the day I was born and I would never comprehend or understand the magnitude of how much he loved me.

I never really knew my grandfather until late in his life, having traveled around the world, and coming of age and being consumed in my own affairs. For whatever reason a few years ago, I decided I was interesting in my genealogy. I began to visit grandpa on a regular basis, too him to Uncle Hyram's funeral, helping him go to the store and see his brother Porter, talking about old times and family--stories I had never heard. I came to know Uncle Porter through grandpa. I am very thankful for the time I have spent with them. Even though I know I should have visited him more recently, I am mostly at peaceful with the fact that I made an effort, that we shared our words with emotion--not assuming... it was extremely meaningful.

Stephen.
