Donald I. "Boomer" Baumgartner, 77, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Major Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1933, in Greensburg, he was the son of Albert and Lorena Baumgartner. He married Barbara Padulo Krause on Nov. 15, 1974, and she survives.
Other survivors include daughter, Joanne Krause (husband, Dan) Mages; son, John (wife, Sally) Krause; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are Barbara McConville, Lynda Ball and David Baumgartner.
Mr. Baumgartner was retired but touched many lives at Shelbyville High School, where he worked in the 1980s.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was proud to serve on a number of civic boards, most recently the Shelbyville Board of Public Works and Safety.
Mr. Baumgartner was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with Father Chris Craig officiating.
