 Gene C. Van Cleve, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Cypress Run in Morristown.

  He was born March 4, 1936 in Shelbyville, to Edmund C. and Florence “Pat” (Phares) Van Cleve

  He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Marilyn J. (Kelsay) Van Cleve, whom he married on March 1, 1957.

  Mr. Van Cleve is also survived by his daughters, Debby McLeod of Shelbyville, and Kathy Taylor (Lanny) of Shelby County; son, Bruce Van Cleve (Amy) of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Abbey Taylor Hankins (Tyler); Ian McLeod (Camaron); and Tori Van Cleve; great-grandchild, Paisley McLeod and another great-grandchild expected in October; brother Dr. Stephen Van Cleve (Chris); and several nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and his grandson, Zachary Taylor.

   Mr. Van Cleve graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954 and from General Motors Institute in 1958.

   He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.  He was a mechanical engineer and retired from Allison Gas Turbine after 39 years of service, which allowed him to travel all over the world.

   He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and all aspects of sprint car racing.  His most precious times were traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.

   Visitation will be 10 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

  Funeral services will follow at Noon at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Morningstar officiating.

  Burial will be in Lewis Creek Cemetery.

Thinking of you at this sad time. Steve always took good care of the Ruby Drive Association
and we always remember him for that. He was great guy.

So sorry to hear of cousin Gene’s passing. I will never forget his laugh. It was very similar to Uncle Richard’s.

Unfortunately we will not be able to attend the service, but know our prayers are for God’s awesome Grace to cover you with His love.

We have made a donation to Wounded Warrior Project in Geneva memory.

We are so sorry for your loss. We have great memories of our Indiana summers with the family and Uncle Gene.
We deeply regret not being able to make it the services, but our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We have made a donation to Riley Children's Hospital in Uncle Gene's memory.
