  Dorothy L. Banta, 88, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at her residence.

  She was born April 14, 1930 in Shelbyville, to Lloyd C. and Thelma E. (Macy) Larkey.

  Dorothy married Dale Banta on October 26, 1947, and he survives.  They enjoyed 71 years of married life together.

  Mrs. Banta is also survived by her daughters, Jeana Lynn Nordstrom of Naples, FL.; Sherri (John) Cottrill, of Columbus, IN.; her son, Dale Keith (Nancy) Banta, of Hope, IN.; sisters, Rosemary Griffey, Elizabeth Larkey, Shirley Evans, Ruth (Morris) Cherry; and Patti (Larry) Green; 8 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son and daughter, sister, Nancy Larkey, and great-great-grandson.

  Mrs. Banta attended Shelby High School.  She was retired from Cummins-Plant.

  She was a member of the Hanover Beach Boat Club.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and reading her books.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

  Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Harvey Weaver officiating.

  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

  Funeral Directors, Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve the Banta family.

  Memorial contributions may be given to Cancer Association of Shelby County, 31 Public Square, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
