Vada Jewell, 83, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Major Hospital.

Born April 21, 1927, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Roland H. and Ada (Sullivan) Weaver. She married William “Chet” Jewell on June 10, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1997.

Survivors include daughters, Vada D. (husband, Dennis) Leong of Middleton, Wis., and Betty (husband, William) Donica of Shelbyville; son, Tony A. (wife, Dora Goss) Jewell of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Mary (husband, Gary) Erickson of Shelbyville; brother, the Rev. Roland Harvey (wife, Sharon) Weaver Jr. of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Bud Craig of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rodney Jewell; a sister, Ada Craig; and special friend, Leonard DeBaun.

Mrs. Jewell was a housewife.

She was a member of the Grace Wesleyan Church.

Mrs. Jewell enjoyed family, cooking and music and had placed her life in God’s hands many years ago.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jeff Allen and Harvey Weaver officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Wesleyan Church, 56 E. Franklin St., Shelbyville IN 46176.

Vada was my mom's sis in law. My mom was Adeline (Jewell) Suttle. I remember Aunt Vada being so vibrant and lovely. She was always full of fun and I enjoyed visiting with her. So sorry for the loss of a precious mom, and treasured member of our family. May God bless. I know that in heaven there is a great reunion amoung the saints we are so privileged to call family!
