It is with great sadness that the family of Timothy Lawrence Hampton announces his passing after a long illness, on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at the age of 60. Tim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Karen, and his sons, Luke Hampton (Bridget Ralston Hampton), Andrew Hampton (Jennifer Burdette Hampton), and Joshua Hampton (Melissa Corley) and his mother, Ernestine Ann Hampton, his sisters, Judy Jeter (Roger Jeter), and Georgina Schmits (Tom Schmits) and many nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Hampton.
A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, October 27, 2:00 pm, at the Evangelical Methodist Church, 276 East Washington Street, Shelbyville, IN.
Tim was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 13, 1958. He attended Asbury University, Asbury Seminary and Reformed Theological Seminary. He served in the pastoral ministry for 35 years, with his last pastorate being at the Evangelical Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Tim was an avid sports enthusiast, especially loving football and basketball. His favorite pastime was reading and perusing the shelves of used book stores.

Sending my deepest condolences to the entire Hampton family. Tim was an amazing human being, man of God, husband, father, and dear friend. He brought such joy and happiness to all those who knew him. I met him when he was a very young youth pastor in Waycross, GA over 35 years ago. And I came to love him like a brother, and will never forget the profound influence he had on my life. This world's loss is now heaven's gain, and I know that he now rests in the loving arms of God. My heart goes out to Karen, Luke, Andrew, and Joshua. Karen & Family,
I am so sorry to learn about Tim's passing. I remember a lot of great times & being one of the youth Tim spent pouring a Godly influence into in small town- Waycross, GA. Even though it has been many years since last seeing you,all of you have been and still remain dear to my heart. I wanted to let you know that in the coming days I will be offering up additional prayers to God to comfort you. My Mom-Faye & My Sister-Karen express their condolences too.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of Tim’s family especially to Karen and his sons, Ann, his mother, and sisters, Georgina and Judy. Our friendship goes back for all of Tim’s life. We grew up in the same church and watched Tim develop into the finest of young men. We grieve over the shorter than expected lifespan but rejoice that he lived his life well.
My first thoughts when I heard of his passing were the words of an old gospel song, “Jesus I Come", and those words express our devout hope in Jesus:
Out of my bondage (suffering), sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come; Jesus I come.
Into Thy freedom, gladness and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee.
Out of my sickness into Thy health,
Out of my wanting and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee.

Dear Karen and sons,
Tim was influential ~ a major force!~ in so many lives as Youth Director at Trinity UMC, Waycross, GA, when I was an older teen. He gave of himself selflessly and went above and beyond to reach out to each of us ... and there were many of us! His encouragement, fun-loving personality, and desire to see each of us develop relationship with Jesus are traits I vividly remember and aspire to emulate. Tim and Karen shared so much love, joy, time, genuine concern, and even some much-needed redirection with each of us. I am grateful for his imprint on my life and the lives of so many others.
An unusual Tim story, reported to me by my father, Archie McEuen, was when Karen was pregnant during an especially busy time for Tim. My dad asked Tim how he had time for "this". Tim's quick, obviously unrehearsed, reply: "I just slipped it in!" then he blushed a bit, turned, and walked away. Dad never told anyone else but Mom and me, as if he had a true secret.
Thank you for sharing Tim with us; we are all the better for having him love us and pray over us. Thank you, Karen, for all you did to afford him time with each of us, even into the late nights and early hours of the morning with so many young people.

Sorry to hear of Tim's passing. We graduated High School together. He was one of my closes
friends back then. That school was so small we were all like family. Had not seen him since he was Pastor at the church he grew up in. This leaves an emptiness in my heart. Tim, myself and his dad use to play basketball behind that church. May God give his wife and children comfort, and especially his mom and sisters.
Tim I turned my life over to Christ a few years ago. I will see you again.
