John B. Veerkamp, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Morristown Manor.

  He was born April 24, 1930 in Millhouson, IN to John J. and Hilda M. (Hardebeck) Veerkamp.  He married Mary E. (Harpring) Veerkamp on July 14, 1954 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2016.

   John is survived by his son, Jerry (Janice) Veerkamp, daughters, Jean (Andy) Armstrong and Debbie (Randy) Moorhead; grandchildren, Brittany (Tony) Knarr; Cody Veerkamp; Tyler Moorhead and Erin Veerkamp; great granddaughters, Sophia and Lyla Knarr; step-grandchildren, Angie (Joe) Thompson; Judy (Eric) Sanqunetti; step-great-grandchildren; Kirsty, Ashli, Ali, Branden, Camryn, Corbin, Cole, step-great-great-grandchildren, Kaydeigh and Abel; and brother, Carl Veerkamp.

  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Donald Veerkamp, and sister, Marjorie Johannigman.

  John was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean War.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He retired from Knauf after 44 years of service. 

  His family was his number one priority.  He enjoyed fishing, wood working and weekends at the lake.

  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.  The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. prior to visitation.

  A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Mike Keucher officiating.

  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

  Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 228 E. Hendricks St., Shelbyville, IN 46176 or Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st St, #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
