Viva M. Ellis, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at MHP Medical Center, Shelbyville.

  She was born February 19, 1926 in Mishawaka, IN to Lawrence and Alville Burkett.  She married Arthur F. Ellis, Jr on March 5, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1999.

  Viva is survived by her sons, Arthur Roscoe Ellis of San Antonio, TX, Peter Donald Ellis of Texarkana, TX, daughters, Sylvia Ellis of Loudonville, NY, Carolyn Gonzales of San Antonio, TX, and Rita Kemple of Shelbyville, 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, 2 sons, Steven Ellis and Ivan Ellis and 1 grandson.

  She was a nurse for 22 years, retiring as an LPN.

  Viva was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship Church.  She was a volunteer at Major Hospital.  Viva loved swimming and being in the water.  She also loved playing musical instruments and was playing piano as recently as May of this year.

  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN. 

  Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at the funeral home with Reverend Brandon Sutton officiating.

  Burial will be in Ever Rest Memorial Park in Logansport, IN.

  Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve the Ellis family.

  Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s Salvation Army of choice or the local Salvation Army at 136 E. Washington Street, Shelbyville, IN.
