Mary Dell Schofner, 83 of Shelbyville, IN passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her residence with her family at her side.

Born March 5, 1934, in Hendricks Township, Shelby County, IN, She was the daughter of Hubert "Mutt" Mullen and Mable (Callahan) Mullen.

Mary Dell married Russell Schofner on Saturday, June 27, 1953, and he survives.

Mary Dell is survived by her children: Karen Ann Wolter, Shelbyville, IN, Kevin (Linda) Schofner, Shelbyville, IN, Keith (Dawn) Schofner, Birmingham, MI, Kristina (Darun) Platt, Shelbyville, IN., 10 grandchildren, Kurt, Kayanna, Chelsea, Caleb, Makenna, Sophie,  Adam (Adair), Megan (Clint), and two great-grandchildren, Sally Jane and Samantha, brother, Harold J (Madge) Mullen, sister, Bertha (Ralph) Fisher, and sister-in-law, Louise Mullen, several nieces, and nephews, and her dog, Spike.

Mrs. Schofner was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Gary Wolter, and brother, Norman Mullen.

Mrs. Schofner was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a delegate of the Foremost Milk Company. She graduated from Fairland High School in 1952.  She was a cheerleader for the Fairland Hornets while her husband played basketball for an opposing team, Waldron Mohawks.  Mrs. Schofner enjoyed playing softball as a catcher.  She loved raising Jersey cows.  She was also an avid fan of the Butler Bulldogs and coach Brad Stephens.Mrs. Schofner was a true servant of the Lord for helping the less fortunate.She was employed at Kroger's for 17 years.  She also worked at Morristown Elementary School for 14 years as the head cook. She never turned a child away that was hungry. Her door was always open for any family, friend, or neighbor to come sit at her table. She loved to cook.

Visitation will be 
Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN.

The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway, Shelbyville, IN.  with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating.

 

Burial will be St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Benesse Center, Saint Jude's, or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for  Mrs. Schofner.
