He was born on August 31, 1924, in Shelby County, the son of Vernal M. and Mary Margaret (Tutter) Havens. On June 30, 1950 Dale married Delphia Mae ‘Jean’ Golden, and she preceded him in death on February 16, 1984.

Surviving from this union are two sons and three daughters: Charles Dale Havens, wife Lisa (deceased); Robert Allen Havens, wife Millie; Teresa Jean Tungate, husband Randy; Linda Gail Thomas, husband Reggie (deceased) and Susan Marie Watson. Dale married Helen M. (Deller) Ogden on October 8, 1988, and she survives with sons Michael Ogden, wife Ann; John Ogden; Terry Ogden, wife Brenda; David Ogden; (deceased).

The combined families of sons, daughters, spouses, 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren greatly loved and admired the compassionate, gregarious and giving spirit of Dale. He touched so many lives and has left each with special memories of his endearing qualities.

His work history included employment in the Requisitions Dept. at Camp Atterbury, Edinburgh, Indiana; Chambers Corp., Shelbyville; skilled trades at Chrysler Corp., Indianapolis; and as a house painter for many homes in Shelbyville.

After retirement from the work force in 1986, Dale met and married Helen Ogden. Their marriage of 28 years was a source of love and nurturing for each other and their families.

In addition to loving and providing for his family, Dale donated his time and support as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society; Dale supported the Fraternal Order of Eagles #766 serving as auditor for several terms; Shelby County Drug Free Coalition; St. Joe Social Club, Knights of Columbus Scared Heart Council #822, Shelby County Historical Society; and served as an usher and commentator at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was my absolute best friend. Though I know we'll one day be reunited, I miss him terribly.
