Music by The Piano Brothers

Richard “Jerry” Verbeck entered into rest on April 17, 2017 with his family by his side.

He was born to Harry Eugene and Mary Ruth (Foley) Verbeck on March 2, 1932 in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Jerry joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and proudly served on the Ryoukis Island of Okinawa during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged from Camp Atterbury on December 4, 1952.

He married the love of his life and best friend Shirley (Mohr) Dove on June 29, 1968.

He was self-employed most of his adult life which allowed him to enjoy worldly travels and accumulate many memories.

Jerry loved to fish and was a professional bass fisherman in the 1970’s winning five tournaments and placing in the top ten on many occasions. He loved his condominium on the St. John’s River in Astor Florida and was especially proud of two 12 lb., 8 oz. and a 13 lb. 8oz bass caught while there in 1981.

He was a sports enthusiast and a life- long Cardinals fan.

In his later years he was content and happy with his garden, feeding and watching the birds, spending time with his cats and of course, his family. Jerry had a very welcoming and charismatic personality and it was always a good time when you were with him. He will be sadly missed by many and all who knew and loved him.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years along with his children Shari (Mark) Hardebeck of Batesville, Indiana, Barbara (Danny) Wolford of Greensburg, Indiana, Vicky Brown of Westport, Indiana, Bonnie Rolfingsmeyer of shelbyville, Tim Verbeck of Shelbyville, Indiana, Joni (Butch) Sweet of Greensburg, Indiana, Shannon Dove (Mark) Edson of Austin, Texas and 20 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers in which he retained an extremely special bond, William (Paulette) Verbeck of Maryville, Illinois, Joseph (Janet) Verbeck of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Charles “Butch” Verbeck of Fairview Heights, Illinois along with sister-in-laws Dorothy (Mohr) Fields, Mary Michaels, Rosie (Mohr) and Joe Monroe, and Nancy (Mohr) Hutchinson all of Shelbyville, Indiana in addition to many nieces and nephews in which he held close to his heart.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, very special brother Gene Verbeck, mother and father-in-law Noah and Florence Mohr, sister-in-laws Cory Verbeck and Joann (Mohr) Botorff, brother-in-law Louis Mohr, and Aunt Alma Thorn.

Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Indiana, 46176 on Friday, April 21, 2017.

Funeral service will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the funeral home with son-in-law Danny Wolford and grandsons Joshua Wolford and Ray Sweet, Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Rd. Shelbyville, IN. 46176

Funeral directors Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for the Verbeck family.
