Richard “Jerry” Verbeck entered into rest on April 17, 2017 with his family by his side.
He was born to Harry Eugene and Mary Ruth (Foley) Verbeck on March 2, 1932 in East St. Louis, Illinois.
Jerry joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and proudly served on the Ryoukis Island of Okinawa during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged from Camp Atterbury on December 4, 1952.
He married the love of his life and best friend Shirley (Mohr) Dove on June 29, 1968.
He was self-employed most of his adult life which allowed him to enjoy worldly travels and accumulate many memories.
Jerry loved to fish and was a professional bass fisherman in the 1970’s winning five tournaments and placing in the top ten on many occasions. He loved his condominium on the St. John’s River in Astor Florida and was especially proud of two 12 lb., 8 oz. and a 13 lb. 8oz bass caught while there in 1981.
He was a sports enthusiast and a life- long Cardinals fan.
In his later years he was content and happy with his garden, feeding and watching the birds, spending time with his cats and of course, his family. Jerry had a very welcoming and charismatic personality and it was always a good time when you were with him. He will be sadly missed by many and all who knew and loved him.
