Ernest E. Livingston Jr., 80, of Columbus, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at Mount Carmel St. Ann Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.

He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Shelbyville to Ernest Sr. and Margaret (Lawrence) Livingston. He married Barbara Ann Thurston on Nov. 25, 1949, and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Randy (wife, Joan) Livingston of Shelbyville; a daughter, Robin Livingston of Columbus, Ohio; a granddaughter, Lori (husband, Dale) Miller of Bloomington; a grandson, Michael (wife, Jennifer) Livingston of Greenwood; great-grandchildren Mason Miller, Luke Miller and Alex Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Livingston and Robert Livingston.

Mr. Livingston retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge No. 2118, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 70, all of Shelbyville. He also was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the U.S. Navy Memorial.

He was awarded the Top Sailor award in 1964 at the U.S. Navy Regional Hospital in Guam.

He was employed in furniture store sales at Scofield's Furniture Store.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Father John Fink officiating. Burial will be in Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted at Heroes of Honor & Glory veterans section at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.

Although I did not know Junior too well, I am always saddened when a veteran who has given the best years of his life for his country passes on. My condolences to Barbara and the family.
