Thomas Douglas Mitchell, 62, of North Ft. Myers, Fla., died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Lee Memorial Health System in Ft. Myers.
Born Oct. 15, 1946, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Charles William "Bill" and Wilma J. (Swinford) Mitchell.
Survivors include special friend, John Bunch of Cape Coral, Fla.; brothers, Stephen Mitchell of Shelbyville and Fredrick Mitchell of Waldron; and a sister, Patricia Mercer-Tucker of Fairland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Mitchell Jr.; and a sister, Ruth Ann Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell had been employed as a mechanical engineer for Major Tool in Indianapolis, retiring in 1998.
He had lived in Shelbyville and Indianapolis until his move to Ft. Myers after his retirement.
Mr. Mitchell also had been the owner and operator of the Office Pub in Ft. Myers for 10 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the American Legion.
Mr. Mitchell was a U.S. Army veteran.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Shelby County.
Memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
