Michael Allan "Mike" Leffew, 64, of Shelbyville died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 21, 1944, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Maurice Leffew and Elma Jean (Coffey) Waltz. He married Linda Piatt on Nov. 6, 1966, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 1991.

Survivors include his mother; daughter, Shelly (husband, Rick) Higdon of Shelbyville; son, Scott (wife, Jeannette) Leffew of Shelbyville; sister, Donna Martin of Texas; and grandchildren, Cody Higdon, Jerod Higdon, Derrick Higdon, Christian Leffew, Ashlee Tackett and Caleb Tackett.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Leffew was a manager for the Shelbyville Standard Grocery Store from 1960 to 1982. From 1982 to the present, he was a retail merchandiser throughout Indiana.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mr. Leffew was a lifetime member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and a member of American Legion Post No. 70.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Linda Frische-Mouri officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ, in care of Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Mike and I worked together at Standard Grocery. He was a wonderful person.
