John William Carter, 73, of Greenfield, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Regency Place of Greenfield.
Born Feb. 19, 1937, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Harry K. and Annie "Gertie" (Dunn) Carter. He married Lois McNeely on Dec. 22, 1967, and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2009.
Survivors include a sister, Dora (husband, Max) Scott of Morristown; and brothers, Harvey (wife, Olena) Carter, Ralph (wife, Connie) Carter, Harry K. Carter Jr. and Jimmy Carter, all of Shelbyville.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sara Maynard; and a brother, Walter Carter.
Mr. Carter had been employed in manufacturing as a factory worker and retired from Arvin Corp.
He was a member of the Eagles and American Legion, both in Shelbyville.
Mr. Carter was a U.S. Army veteran.
Fishing and gardening were his hobbies.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery Friday, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
