Charles L. "Chuck" Lyda, 56, of Shelbyville, died Monday, March 22, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born May 12, 1953, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Robert Louis and Alma Jean (Wall) Lyda. He married Sheila Lyda, and she survives in Shelbyville.

Other survivors include daughters, Christyna Eaton and Sharyl Schmidt, both of Indianapolis, Shannon Mashburn of Jacksonville, N.C., and Becky Whyde of Beech Grove; sons, Jonathan Heady of Tempe, Ariz., Jeremy Heady of Havelock, N.C., Cory Lyda of Hendersonville, N.C., Shane Lyda of Shelbyville and Chance Lyda of Indianapolis; 25 grandchildren; sisters, Sue Bradley of Arden, N.C., and Zula Mae Lyda of Kentucky; brother, Robert Lyda of Morganton, N.C.; and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and his paternal grandparents.

Mr. Lyda was a former minister to the homeless for Shepherd Community Church in Indianapolis.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Lyda was a No. 1 fan of the Shelbyville Golden Bears football team.

No visitation will be observed.

A memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be at 5 p.m. Friday at 9010 E. Thompson Road in Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles "Chuck" Lyda Memorial Fund in care of Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville IN 46176, to whom arrangements were entrusted.

I had known poppy my entire life, he will be missed by many. Poppy had many things wrong with his heart and lungs, so it was not very surprising for me because he was very sick and in pain. If you ask me i was happy he was gone because he can't get fat any more, and he's relieved of his pain and is not reunited with my real grandmother. May poppy rest in peace forever.

I will miss you terribly dad you will always be in our thoughts I am just so glad that we all got to spend the last few months of your life together R.I.P dad forever and always now youre finally home with all of our deceased loved ones.

It's been almost two months and I still find it strange not to have you here. The kids still talk about you and miss you.

BTW - wonder who Linda is.
