Robert W. Poehner, 76, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Indianapolis.

Born Nov. 15, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Robert E. and Gladys C. (Brodbeck) Poehner. He married Janet Krekeler on Dec. 26, 1955, and she survives.

Other survivors include his children, Glenn (wife, Sue) Poehner, Tracy (husband, Jim) Kamlieter, Gregg Poehner and David Poehner; grandchildren, Sean, Stephanie, Melanie, Ann, Teresa, Renee and Tim; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Poehner.

Mr. Poehner had been employed with several engineering firms in Indianapolis and retired from KT Corp. He also was a private pilot and instructor.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Poehner was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Disabled American Veterans.

His hobbies included working with stained glass and woodworking.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Chris Craig officiating.

Services have been entrusted to Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.

Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 2345 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

What a wonderful man. You will always be remembered for your funny stories, checking your traps every morning on the shop floor, teaching us NON engineer's what it was all about and keeping it simply. You brought sunshine and laughter into our lives and you will be truly missed.

I am so very sorry. Bob was a wonderful man and a very good grandpa. I am so sorry I cannot be there to show how much I care. My heart goes out to Janet and everyone in the family. I know Bob will be truly missed. May we all cherish a heart full of loving memories.

Janet, I read in the Criterion that Bob died the last day of March. I want to offer my you and your family my condolences. One thing I remember about Bob was his sense of humor. Be assured of my prayers for all of your family as well as Bob.
