Robert E. Smothers, 55, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
  Born March 14, 1955, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Claude C. and Mary L. (Elliott) Smothers.
  Survivors include daughters, Kelly Smothers of Indianapolis and Brandy Smothers of Shelbyville; brothers, Mike Smothers of Greensburg and Ronnie Smothers, Scottie Smothers and Ricky Smothers, all of Shelbyville; sisters, Judy Smith of Arkansas, May Comstock of Greenwood, Peggy Milner of Florida and Faye Wilkerson, Dolly Smothers and Chrissy Leffler, all of Shelbyville.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dustin Smothers; and a sister, Linda Dyer.
  Mr. Smothers had been employed as a manufacturing factory worker for Knauf Insulation for 24 years.
  He served with the Indiana National Guard for six years.
  Mr. Smothers was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges.
  He enjoyed fishing and playing pool.
  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.
  Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
  Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, with graveside military rites provided by local veterans organizations.
