Maxine E. Thurston, 78, of Fairland died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Major Hospital.

Born Oct. 6, 1930, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Sherman and Lillie R. (VanGordon) Crafton. She married Richard W. Thurston on July 6, 1966, in Nashville, Tenn., and he survives.

Other survivors include her daughters, Norma (husband, Robert) Bottom of Ohio, Cindy Darby of Shelbyville and Debra (husband, Jeff) Johnson of Fairland; sons, James (wife, LeeAnn) Thurston and Kim (wife, Marshia) Darby, both of Shelbyville, and Rick (wife, Dee) Darby of Florida; sister, Margaret Shepple of Shelbyville; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, six brothers and grandson, Shaun Darby.

Mrs. Thurston was a homemaker.

She was a member of Fairland Northwood Christian Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Strange officiating.

Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.
