Emil Harvey Meltzer, 81, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Born Dec. 8, 1926, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Harvey and Stella (Roell) Meltzer. He married Agnes Kieffer on Aug. 30, 1952, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, William (wife, Suzanne) Meltzer, Dale Meltzer and Keith Meltzer, all of Fountaintown; daughter, Karen (husband, Ralph) Transtad of Wyoming; daughter-in-law, Karen Meltzer of Greenfield; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Meltzer; and two brothers.
Mr. Meltzer was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
He had been a mechanic.
Mr. Meltzer was a U.S. Army veteran.
He graduated from Morristown High School.
Mr. Meltzer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion, Eagles Lodge, Knights of Columbus and past president of St. Joseph Social Club.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veteran organizations.
