Jerry D. "Perk" Wertz, 70, of Edingurgh died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born March 3, 1938, in Shelby County, he was the son of Roy and Mary (VanScyoc) Wertz.

Survivors include his sister, Inez Snyder, Zionsville; nieces, Jane Hurd, Kim Rogers, and Beth Rogers; nephews, Barry Klopstad, Greg Klopstad, and Brent Gilmartin; and several special friends that became his care givers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mr. Wertz was an auto mechanic and Southwestern Shelby County farmer. He was also known in Central Indiana as a sprint car mechanic.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. John Lucas and Bryan Trotter officiating.

Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Shelby County, 110 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. Perky is a very special person who was kind, warm and sincere. Perky also had a great sense of humor! We always smiled when Perky was around. I know my Dad, Ed Jines, will miss him dearly. You are in our prayers.
