Geraldine R. Lorent, 92, of Shelbyville died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Ashford Place Health Campus.

Born Aug. 19, 1915, in Lynn, Mass., she was the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Collette) Rydant. She married Carlton Lorent, and he preceded her in death in July of 1975.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hiatt Anspaugh of Shelbyville; sisters, Lorraine Goodrich of Schenectady, N.Y., Dorothy Perry of Northborough, Mass., and Delores Allen of Sun Valley, Calif.; brother, Louis Rydant of Northborough; grandchildren, Jeff (wife, Julie) Hiatt of New Palestine, Greg (wife, Dana) Hiatt of Westfield, Merri-Anne (husband, Brian) Hiatt-Sullivan and Joseph (wife, Angela) Anspaugh, both of Shelbyville, Staci (husband, Richard) Leap-Sobieray of Galena, Ohio, Deron (wife, Julie) Leap of Nineveh and Beth (husband, Thomas) Leap-Deal of Plainfield, Ill.; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Leap, two brothers, two sisters, and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Lorent and her husband, moved to Shelby County from Schenectady on Aug. 19, 1955, with General Electric.

She was a homemaker and was formerly employed at the former Hylton House Gift Shop and Compton's Cow Palace.

Mrs. Lorent's hobbies included making dolls, quilts and curtains and watching the family's children.

No visitation or services are planned.
