Mary Lou Speece, 88, of Shelbyville, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Ashford Place Health Campus.

Born Oct. 2, 1920, in Mount Carmel, Ill., she was the daughter of James W. and Ada Lee (McCuan) Lawrence. She married Ernest L. Speece on July 16, 1951, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1979.

Survivors include sons, Charles (wife, Connie) Speece of Shelbyville and Robert Speece of Greenwood; a daughter, Cathy (husband, Wallace) Blessing of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Pat Beauchamp, and a brother.

Mrs. Speece had lived in Boggstown from 1952 to 1978.

She was a member of the Boggstown Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Fairland Order of Eastern Star.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Boggstown Cemetery in Boggstown.

So I'm glad not that my loved one has gone, but that the earth she laughed and lived on was my earth, too.
That I had known her and loved her, and that my love for her I'd shown.
Tears over her departure?
Nay, a smile because I was blessed to have walked with her for a little while.
