Donna P. Smith, 71, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South in Greenwood.
Born June 29, 1937, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of John and Lola (Jeffries) Mays. She married Eugene Smith on May 21, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2001.
Survivors include her sons, Larry (wife, Rise) Smith of Shelbyville and Thomas W. (wife, Theresa) Smith of Franklin; twin brother, Donald Mays of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Bradly W. Smith and Malerie Marie Smith, both of Shelbyville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Bruce Smith and Timothy Smith; and nine brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Smith had been a union seamstress at Elanjay Corp. for 35 years, until they closed. She then was a matron for Southwestern High School Corp. from 1986 to 1994.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 70.
Mrs. Smith loved her grandchildren very much; they were the light of her life.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Robert Prather officiating.
Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County.
