James M. Roberts, 75, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1934, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Floyd and AnnaBelle (Fisher) Roberts. He married Barbara Seaver on Oct. 13, 1974, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Bill Roberts of Shelbyville, Robin Roberts of Flat Rock, Tim Roberts of Fountaintown and Bruce Conner of Franklin; daughters, Deborah Brooks and Myra Jeffries, both of Shelbyville; sister, Sandra Phillips of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Cox.
Mr. Roberts was an electrician for Wellman Industries and retired from there. Recently he was a security guard for Indiana Downs, retiring from there in 2007.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Mr. Roberts was a past commander and lifetime member of the American Legion; member of the 40&8; and house commander and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved auto racing.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Robert Prather officiating. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations.
