John P Cox, 90 of Fairland, IN passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Major Hospital Shelbyville IN

Born Friday, October 01, 1926 in Shiloh, OH, he was the son of John P Cox, Sr. and Bessie (Donathon) Cox. 

John married LaVonna Mertz on August 16, 1947 she preceded him in death on August 29, 2009. 

John is survived by daughter: Lucinda (Marland) Ratican, Rushville, IN, son: Phillip (Joanne) Cox, NJ, daughter: Monya Byers, Kirkland, IN, son: Joseph Cox, West Chester, OH, brother: Dean Cox , Sister: Evelyn James, Half-Brother Charles Alfrey. 10 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and 1 Great-grandchild, 

He worked for Northwestern School District as a custodian and school bus driver for 16 years retiring in 1991. 

He was a member of Fairland Christian Church,  American Legion,  Sugar Creek Masonic Lodge #279 and Good Sam's camping club. He enjoyed fishing and flying and always enjoyed a good game of shuffle board.  He was a collector of model trains.

Visitation will be Monday, December 19, 2016 from 10:00 AM to1:00 PM at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN. 46176

Funeral service will follow Monday, December 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Brandon Sutton officiating.

Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery Fairland IN.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Cox.

Sorry to learn about John's passing. We did not know about it until it was in the Shelbyville News on the 20th. We knew John and Bonnie as camping friends for many years. They always had "camping stories" to tell about their family camping of years ago. He will be missed by all Good Sams. Also in the later years at the eatouts we had at local resturants.
