John Nicholson, 90, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home in Shelbyville.
He was born Feb. 25, 1926, to Forrest Nicholson and Ethel (Dismore) Bennett. He married Betty Hobbs on Sept. 21, 1945, and she preceded him in death April 24, 2013.
Survivors include six children: Joyce Able and husband, Dennis, of Indianapolis; Lois Dehn and husband, Jim, of Greenwood; Fred Nicholson of Bloomington; Ted Nicholson and wife, Wilma, of Shelbyville; Patty Phelps and husband, David, of Shelbyville; and Karen Brown and husband, Lee, of Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and five great-grandchildren.
John was employed at Continental Kitchen as a mill room foreman, retiring in 1986 after 60 years of service.
He was a member of Bible Holiness Church.
John was an avid fisherman and had a passion for woodworking. He also enjoyed watching sports.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Bible Holiness Church, 2911 E. Michigan Road.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Joseph Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Garden in Shelbyville.
