Chester R. Smothers, 65, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at his residence.

Born Dec. 25, 1950, in Shelbyville, he was the son of the late John Smothers and the late Kathern Wright Smothers. He married Patricia Procell in March 1968, and she survives.

Also surviving are sons, Rowdy J. Smothers of Ohio and Shawn Smothers of Shelbyville; daughters: Michelle Bowlby and husband, Todd, of Shelbyville; and Melissa Farless and companion, Oren Sweet, of Greensburg; five brothers: Alvin Smothers and wife, Rose; Harvie Smothers; and David Smothers and wife, Mary; and Gary Smothers, all of Shelbyville; and Junior Smothers of Rushville; two sisters, Mary Miller and Diana Chaney and husband, Sherman, all of Shelbyville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Smothers was an avid pool player. He was very active at the Shelbyville Eagles. He loved spending time with his family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Robert Prather officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Murphy-Parks Funeral Service for the Chester Smothers Memorial Fund.

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Smothers.
