Earl Lee Loman, 93, of Cedar Lake, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2015.

Born Feb. 12, 1922, in Dustin, Oklahoma, to Chris and Ethel (Halk) Loman, he grew up in Wewoka, Oklahoma, the oldest of seven children.

He joined the U.S. Navy Feb. 26, 1943, and entered the U.S. Merchant Marines on July 28, 1943. Family was very important to him and he always said that thinking of his family kept him going during his service.

After World War II he became an electrician at Coyne Electric School in Chicago, Illinois. It was in Chicago where he met the love of his life, Mary Marchese Loman, marrying her June 4, 1949.

Mr. Loman was a member of Local 697 of IBEW, now located in Merrillville, for more than 50 years. He was one of the founding members of IBEW Local 697 Federal Credit Union, serving as president from 1958 until 2010.

He loved horses and owned and trained them for calf roping, which he and his son, Chris, enjoyed as Chris was growing up.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Mager and husband, Greg; son, Chris Loman, M.D. and wife, Rhoda; grandchildren, Tommy and Kevin Mager and Matt, Keith and Kelly Loman.

His grandchildren were the light of his life and he spent his retirement enjoying them.

Viewing for family and friends will be from noon to 1 p.m, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with celebrants Father John Maung and Father Dale Ehrman officiating.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be given to Shelby Senior Services Food Pantry, 1504 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Earl, you and Mary made life more enjoyable and endearing to be in. The love you both showed me and my family, the way Earl taught us to be kind, gentle and love the horses, and his ability to smile and laugh a lot at life are things I treasure in my heart! Thank you for the memories and love. Chris, Rhoda, and Debbie I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is with you as you lay to rest one of my heroes!
