William “Dub” Barnett, former Shelbyville resident, passed away Monday, March, 9, 2015, at Lawrence Manor Healthcare Center in Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 10, 1941, to George and Katherdiner Barnett-Miller in Hickman, Kentucky.

William served in Vietnam in the '60s in the U.S. Army.

William worked in accounting for the Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison for 43 years.

William was a member of Mount Gerizim Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

William had a big heart and was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Barnett.

He is survived by his brother, Wesley A. Miller Jr. (Helen), Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Lisa Pettis-Spriggs (Joniver), Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Pat Scales (Bill), Birmingham, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Pandra Taylor, Toledo, Ohio; Chesca Ottison (Tarus), Alabaster, Alabama; James Barnett II (Jada), Maumee, Ohio; Sharia Pettis (Greg), Shelbyville; Charity Miller, Fort Worth; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to thank the nursing home for the great care they gave William while he was in their care. A special thanks to Vicky and Julie.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bridgeman officiating.

Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Barnett.

I'm sorry I'm unable to attend the services but my thoughts and prayers are with you all. My cousin Dub was one of a kind to know him is to love him. He will be deeply missed. Love you all.

You will be missed. I remember when we were stationed in Ft. Knox and he would always come to spend the weekends with us. RIP, cuz.
