Genieva Ann Higdon, 72, of Blue Ridge, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg.

She was born Dec. 16, 1942, to Oval Alvey and Elizabeth Alvey in Kentucky. She married Daymon I. Higdon on Nov. 26, 1960, and he preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1986.

Survivors include seven children: Randall Higdon and wife, Teresa, of Shelbyville; Joe Higdon and wife, Elaine, of Waldron; Rachael Stewart and husband, Lynn, of Shelbyville; Sandy Wagoner and husband, Mark, of Shelbyville; Ricky Higdon and wife, Shelly, of Shelbyville; Peggy Collingwood and husband, Joe, of Shelbyville; and Buddy Higdon and wife, Shelly, of Fairland; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Catherine Chambers and husband, John, of Shelbyville; Helen Clemons and husband, Lester, of Louisville, Kentucky; Lillie Sandlin and husband, Roger, of Mount Washington, Kentucky; Wilma Watson and husband, Bob, of Cookeville, Tennessee; Mary VanMeter and husband, Jeff, of Clarkson, Kentucky; and brother, Ernie Alvey.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Pete Alvey and Virgil Lush; and sisters, Ailene Strader, Nettie Reed, Effie Clemons and Rosalee Alvey.

Mrs. Higdon worked as a custodian and retired from Shelby Eastern Schools.

She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Anne's Altar Society.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., Shelbyville, with Father John Maung officiating.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be given to Riley Children's Foundation, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204-3509.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mrs. Higdon.
