James M. “Mike” Bird, 58, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at his residence.
 
He was born Sept. 11, 1956, to James M. Bird and Patricia (Wilson) Bird in Shelbyville.
 
Survivors include his mother of Shelbyville; sister, Janice Veerkamp and husband, Jerry, of Shelbyville; brother, Dennis Bird and wife, Joyce, of Wadesville; nephew, Cody Veerkamp; and niece, Erin Veerkamp.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, seven uncles and two aunts.
 
Mr. Bird graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1974.
 
In 1973, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
 
Mr. Bird was a district manager in southern Louisiana for Dollar General. Recently, before his illness, he worked for Comfort Inn.
 
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
 
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Robert Prather officiating.
 
Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
 
Memorial contributions may be given to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th Street, Columbus, IN 47201.
 
Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Bird.

Patricia, Melissa, Derek and I express our deepest sympathy to Aunt Pat, Janice and Dennis on Mike's passing. It is sad that someone so young has to leave use so soon. We will always have fond memories of him.
